When to Replace Your Projector Lamps

When do you need to replace your projector lamps? Many owners of projector lamps are confused as to when the right time is to replace their projector lamps. Change too early, then you'll effectively waste money. Replace your projector lamps too late, and then you risk damaging your unit.

The signs may be there, but you don't know what they are. Here are some tips to help you determine if you need to replace your projector lamps.

One of the most common problems faced by many owners of projector lamps is when the bulb burns out. You'll know there's a problem when you hear a clicking sound, which means that the bulb is trying to switch itself on, but is failing. Don't panic: all you need to do here is have the bulb replaced – which doesn't take very long - and then presto, your projector lamps are up and working again.

Of course, before the bulbs of your projector lamps burn out, you will first see a dimness of the images you're projecting. Be sure to look out for signs of dimming in your images as you use your projector lamps. Dimming is a normal occurrence that is part of your projector lamps' natural wear and tear as you use it over time.

Another sign is the lamp indicator that most projector lamps have nowadays. The indicator shows how far along the lamp is in the maker or manufacturer's recommended lamp life time. If you're past, you don't need to replace immediately; take a look at your lamp and see whether or not the lamp can still be used by looking at the image the unit projects. If it's still fine for your purposes, then you can still use the lamp. However, you should be aware that dimming is usually faster after the manufacturer's recommended lamp life time, and many manuals will recommend replacing the bulb of your projector lamps immediately. So remember not to overuse the lamp too long after its lamp life time has expired.

When you overuse, you also run the risk not just that your projector lamps will burn out, or dimness of the projected images, but also that the bulb might crack or break into pieces because it cannot handle the job anymore. The usual indication of this is when you hear a popping sound. Moreover, when this happens, other parts of your projector could suffer damage, so preventing this is always important, even though the chances are low of this happening. Be sure to clean out the broken parts first before replacing the bulb and removing any excess glass that could be trapped inside the unit.

As long as you use your projector lamps properly and treat them with care, many will exceed their lifespan as indicated by the manufacturer. As long as you read the owners / users manual properly and apply all the tips and guides for proper care and maintenance of your unit, then you won't need to worry about prematurely replacing your projector lamps.
