Replacing a Projector Lamp: Tips and Steps to Follow

Watching your rear projection TV is quite enjoyable. Using the projector for work and other application is convenient. However, when it's time to replace the projector lamp it can be quite inconvenient too. It would take some know-how in order to replace your projector lamp successfully without wasting your time and your money.

Buying the Replacement Projector Lamp

Take note that you need to purchase a projector lamp that is compatible with your projector. The quality of lamps varies depending on the manufacturer. While you may want to save money, it is important to make sure you are buying quality lamps. Or else, you could end up spending a lot more money instead. The choice of vendor would also count. Since the projector lamp you order could actually arrive dead, it's important that the vendor would be willing to replace them.

The Actual Replacement of Your Replacement Lamp

Before doing anything, make sure you have your tools with you. A screwdriver would be needed. You'd also need a micro-fiber cleaning cloth to hold the lamp so you will not touch the lamp assembly. It's important that you use a non-abrasive so the micro-fiber cleaning cloth is ideal.

Remember to turn off the projector and let it cool down completely. Then pull out the power cord from the power outlet. Remove the power cord from the unit too.

Then it would be time to remove the projector lamp door. It is usually located at the bottom part of the projector unit. It is also usually secured by a couple of screws so you would have to remove the screws to remove the compartment door.

To remove the projector lamp assembly, just carefully pull it out of the unit. Make sure that there is no more power cords connected to it. Set it aside but make sure you will know which one is the new projector lamp later.

Since dust could get in while you leave the compartment open, you have to clean the whole lamp compartment using the micro-fiber cleaning cloth. You must remove all specs of dust inside. Then carefully connect all power cords back to the lamp if there is any. After that, slide the projector lamp back the same way the old one came out.

After putting the new projector lamp securely, you can now put the compartment door back. Make sure that you put all the screws back. Don't screw it too tightly though.

It's now time to test your projector. If you were able to do it correctly you can now enjoy your projector again. To be safe, it would be a good idea to keep a spare projector lamp just in case your projector lamp burns out again.

To avoid replacing the projector lamp too frequently, it would be a good idea to purchase the recommended projector lamp by the manufacturer. A cheap projector lamp would only seem cheaper but you may also need to keep on replacing it often. So, it would be a better idea to buy quality ones. Even if each costs relatively higher it will come out cheaper in the long run.
