Purchasing a projector, you need to realize that projector lamps are very expensive when you need to go to replace them. You may of course, like any product that is expensive, wonder why this is the case. Why are projector lamps so darn expensive?

There is one big reason when you look at the price of projector lamps; this is the place where a manufacturer is able to make a lot of money. Projector lamps run from 100 pounds at the lower end all the way up to 300 pounds, while the cost to make projector lamps is a lot less than this. This reason is why you will find some of the projectors will come with a free replacement projector lamp; this is a great way for a consumer to save some money and the manufacturer isn't spending that much more money by including the projector lamp in the package. As an interesting tidbit you will find that back in 1994 projector lamps cost from 3 to 8 pounds, and they would last around 40 hours of use. What a huge difference in the years that have gone by.

Plus they keep the production of the projector lamps down. This will cut down on the inventory that is stocked on the shelves, but it will also make the projector lamps a lot harder to find when you go to look for them.

Also keep in mind that the projectors out there don't use the same projector lamps either. You will find that the wattage may be different ranging from 150 to 300 watts. You will find though with the amount of time that most projector lamps are rated to last and how long the average person will use a projector will mean that the projector lamps should be good for 2 to 3 years. That is one of the main reasons they don't make many and keep them on the shelves.

When it comes time for that new projector lamp you will have to buy the same manufacturer that is in your projector. This is because there are no third party replacements that are made yet. If any third parties do begin to make projector lamps the prices will most likely go down a tremendous amount.

There will also be those people who when it comes time to replace the projector lamps will instead think that they may be able to get another projector for around the same price. Think about this option. In a sense it may work, however if you plan on upgrading to a better projector you may not save any money but end up spending more. Really, for projector lamps that cost around 300 pounds you might be able to get a new projector, but will it be as good as your old one? Just a thought to keep in mind before you make your final decision.

It's not always the best idea to go and spend an extra 700 pounds to get a new projector when your old one is perfectly fine. So don't do anything that is in haste when it comes to projector lamps.
