Projector Lamps and How to Buy Them |
If you have a projector, sooner or later you will need to buy projector lamps; they don't last forever. However, you will find there are some things you will be able to do that will help your projector lamps last a longer time than usual.
First off you need to keep in mind that not all projector lamps are made the same. The process is the same yes, but projector lamps won't all last the same amount of time. In studies you will see that the average life of projector lamps is normally around 2000 hours, which is pretty long if you are looking at a projector that is being used in a home setting. With a business setting the projector will be used a lot more than a family will use it. So the 2000 hour life of projector lamps for a business setting will obviously go a lot quicker than the other way.
Also projector lamps are pretty expensive, running anywhere from 100 pounds and all the way up to 300 pounds. For a family this may be a bit expensive, but remember again that a family will not use the 2000 hours as quickly as business. So you may think that's a lot of money, but if the projector bulbs last up to 3 years it's really not a bad investment. All you need to do is save up for the projector bulbs. Or when you first buy the projector, try and get one that comes up with the first projector bulb replacement free.
So you will than have up to 6 years to save up the money for your projector lamps. In a business setting the cost of projector lamps shouldn't even really matter. The company can always save the money in another way.
Projector lamps can last longer than 2000 hours too; remember that was just an average amount. Of course in the same sense you will find that some projector lamps will last less time too. Just when you go to buy projector bulbs make sure that you try check out what the warranty is on it. Some manufacturers are now offering some pretty good warranties; say up to 1000 hours of use and 90 days. That's a pretty long time, and of course if the projector lamps go bad before that time you can always get the new one free. Remember you need to follow some cleaning rituals of your projector that will help not only projector lamps last longer, but also your projector will last longer too.
This will be the projector service, and you should do this every 100 hours of use. Make sure that you keep track of this closely, because if you skip this service your filters will become clogged, and that won't only affect projector lamps but possibly more problems with your projector that will be very expensive.
Also with the placement of your projector it will help to have your projector lamps last longer. If you make sure that your projector is placed at least 6 inches from a wall, the air flow will be good and this will help the fan to run properly and keep the projector lamps cool. This is one of the main things you really need to make sure you do to keep projector lamps cool, and they will possibly run for more hours than they are rated.
