Buying Projector Lamps

Do you and your family have a home projector that you use quite a bit, and you've just recently begun to find out how much projector lamps are to replace? This cost is so high because they are a mercury vapour type lamp, which is used in all projectors. You can find them either via the internet, or even in stores. They are listed as UHP, which means Ultra High Pressure.

You will find that the life of these mercury vapour projector lamps don't really last that long. An average is around 2000 hours; this amount of time was testing on a projector that is being run at full lamp power, which is its normal mode of operation. However, you will find that you can adjust the lamp power to eco-mode, which may get your projector lamp to last more than that average of 2000 hours.

You will find that these projector lamps aren't going to last the 2000 hours either every time. Some of them may last as little as 1000 hours or less, while you may find that some can even last up to 3000 hours. With these projector lamps, you will find if you set the projector to the eco-mode you can save around 20% brightness. Of course, again this is an average and the range is normally around 10% and may actually reach up to 30%. One of the biggest differences in the percentage will be found between different types of projectors.

When you decide to switch and operate the projector in this low mode there are two large benefits. First of course will be that the projector lamps will last a lot longer. You will find that most companies who manufacture projectors claim if a projector is set to low eco-mode that it will increase the hours from 2000 to 3000 hours. Think about that money you can save in that extra 1000 hours.

If you go to look into this claim made by these companies on how many more hours you can get, it's really hard to figure out because there are other companies that claim you will get no extra hours no matter what mode you operate in. However, a product from Mitsubishi states that if you use it in eco-mode you will get 5000 hours from the projector lamps.

Because of that difference in hours that has been stated by some projector lamps and manufacturers, there are projector lamps that are coming out with warranties. Normally you will find that the warranties will run for either 90 days or 500 hours of use, however some will even go up to around 1000 hours of use. In other studies that were done it was shown that 20% of lamps would normally make 1000 hours, while some other won't even make it to 1500 hours.

Keep in mind that if you try and operate a projector lamp past it's allotted time that you are risking the chance of the projector lamps exploding. This will cause damage to your projector, and the cost of projector lamps is cheaper than getting your projector fixed.
