Replacing that Projector Lamp |
You will no doubt need to replace that projector lamp if you own a projector, but how often will this happen? There is an average of 2000 hours that a projector lamp will last, but you need to keep in mind that this is only an average and not a given. There are certain things that will help the projector lamp last a bit longer, and when the price of one of these projector lamps can run up to 300 pounds you need all the extra life out of it that you can get.
You need to remember that not all projector lamps are made equal. This means you may have one that will only last 500 hours, while some other projector lamps may run up to 3000 hours. However, if you want to help your projector lamp last a bit longer, follow the steps below.
First you need to make sure that you follow the recommendations to cleaning your projector filters or replacing them. In the owner's manual you will find that it is suggested that you do this about every 100 hours. With the cleaning or replacing of filters, you will find that this can possibly add another 20% more of life to your projector lamp. That's a nice jump just to take the time to clean up a filter. In order to make sure that you do this properly, you need to somehow keep a log of the time that you've used your projector. A good idea is to simply keep a pad of paper beside the projector and immediately write it down when you get done using the projector. This way you don't forget any time that you may have used the projector.
You also need to be aware of where you place your projector when you set it up. Meaning that in the manual again you will find recommendations about how far away from the wall you need to put your projector. How does this help out the projector lamp? It's quite simple really. The air flow will not be blocked by a wall, which will allow the fan to work easier and the air will also help to keep the projector lamp cool. This is a huge thing you need to make sure that you do right. If your fan isn't working right and doesn't cool off the projector lamp right it may cause the lamp to explode, which will cause some internal damage to your projector which will not be a cheap repair.
Remember, when you go to get a projector lamp that you are not going to be able to really find a great deal on the price. This is because only the manufacturers make the projector lamp. This keeps the price up. If a third party vendor was allowed to come in and produce some projector lamps, it would get that price down. But really when you think about it, after the purchase of your projector this is the only time that the manufacturer will see any more money, unless you send the projector into repair through the manufacturer. However, most people don't do this because it's usually pretty expensive.
A projector lamp will last a little longer, at least if you do the things above. And remember that you probably won't need another projector lamp for around 2 to 3 years, so that's not really a bad price over all.
