How to Choose Screens for Your Home Theatre |
The popularity of the home video projector has recently increased enormously during the past few years. Long gone is the old system you used to watch in the second grade when film strips were the order of the day. The more modern version of today is the digital video projector and DVDs. The new models provide a clear picture of movies, games, and home movies that are entertaining and enjoyable.
These enjoyable views are only as enjoyable as the surface they are projected onto allows. Many people have made the mistake of choosing to project their video images onto a blank white wall. They were disappointed when they found that the wall did not reflect good images. It is best to match the projector with a screen. There are all kinds of screens, from the bed sheet screen to the electrical models that are hidden in the ceiling. There are also a variety of finishes to reflect the video image that you want.
There are several different surfaces available on a home theatre projector screen. You must match the surface of the screen with the projector. Screen surfaces come in three types such as matte white, reflecting beaded models, or slightly gray. The glass beaded models work to brighten your projector's image. Lower brightness models of projectors benefit from the higher reflective screen. The higher light output projectors benefit more when paired up with a screen with a matte finish. The LCD projector should be paired up with silver to gray screen because they have less black/white contrasts. Always choose your projector and then match the proper screen with it.
There are three basic models of projection screens. They are fixed, pull down, and electric. The most common screens are the manual pull down screens. These operate just as windows screens. The electric screens are made to rise and lower and retract with the push of a button. Fixed screens are stationary, usually on a wall. Fixed screens have the flattest surface because they are not susceptible to waves. Where you will set up your entertainment system will determine the best kind of screen to choose. The size of the room will determine if you should purchase a fixed, pull down, or electric screen. Of course, your budget will also determine your screen.
The screen's aspect ratio should be top priority in choosing your screen. The aspect ratio is the shape of the screen surface. There are two basic aspect ratios: 4 x 3 D is the normal ratio for television, while 16 x 9 D is the normal ratio for the widescreen. You must determine the aspect ratio of your screen before you purchase it, because once you buy it there is no way that you can change the aspect ratio.
If you thoroughly research your choice of screens before you buy, you can save yourself a lot of money, time, and disappointment. You want to make the best choice the first time. Choose your screen wisely by matching it to your projector.
