Projectors: How to Choose the Best One for You

Projectors are gaining more and more popularity. Several new models are available on the market with lower price tags, making it accessible to more and more customers. Home theater, business meeting rooms, classrooms, and a lot of other places become familiar with projectors. There are several models available on the market with wide price range. So how do you know what to look for in a projector? Which projector could fulfill your needs and wants? Here we will discuss several important factors to look for in a projector.

Brightness is one of several points to look for in a projector. If you ever heard ANSI lumens, that shows how bright is the output of a projector. The higher the value, the brighter the output would be. Although brightness has become a marketing jargon for most manufacturers, it still shows an accurate measurement. If you plan to use your projector in a dimmed, low light environment than lower output brightness should be enough. Higher brightness is, on the other hand, required for outdoor or well-lit rooms use.

Contrast is another point to look for. You should see ratio, such as 300:1, showing ratio between the brightest to darkest areas of projected output. As you found in brightness, higher ratio means your projector could perform better in brighter environment.

You should check whether your projector is an LCD projector or DLP projector. The type of projectors chosen will determine operational cost, and of course the price of that particular projector also. DLP projectors will do better for professional users, while home and simple business users should opt for LCD projectors.

Don't forget to check the resolution of a projector. Higher resolution will produce crisp and fine details, suitable for viewing movies and high-resolution images and professional use. If you only plan to use your projectors for home or business use, such as doing business presentations, lower resolutions should be enough.

Lamp life, the life span of your projector's lamp, should also be considered. Most projectors nowadays have an average lamp life of 2,000 hours. Some could even last longer, and are equipped with “Economy Mode” that can further prolong lamp life. Replacement lamps cost is the main issue for most projector users, so be sure to choose one with longer lamp life to save budget in the future.

Several other features, such as connectivity, remote control, and wireless options, can be added to make it easier for you to choose. Manufacturers are racing to produce better projectors that have better value for money, so you obviously have a wide range of products to choose from.

In addition, choose a projector that suits your budget best. If you have limited budget, LCD projectors with average features is probably for you. Those who have limitless budget, or at least sufficient enough to get better projectors, go for DLP projectors with high resolutions to meet the needs of your eyes.

Either way, choosing a projector is not that different from choosing other gadgets, such as laptops.  Lot of factors should be put into considerations to ensure best value for money. Happy shopping!
