Types of Projector Lamps

One of the most important parts of any projector is the Projector lamp. The reason for the projector lamp being so important is that it is responsible for transferring images from the projector to another screen where they are then displayed.

The market is full of projector lamps from different manufacturers and it is up to the customer to decide which brand he would like to go for. Along with the brands, the technologies on which they are designed are also different. The initial models consisted on halogen projector lamps. Yet the problem with the lamps was that there was an influence of yellow color in the pictures. The yellow light was transmitted and that led to the reduction in the picture clarity. The projector lamps that were introduced after the halogen ones and which are still very popular in the market are the ones that consist of metal halide bulbs. The picture transmitted by them is much more clearly than compared to the one transmitted by the projector lamps with halogen bulbs.

A very few number of components in a projector are usually replaceable if damaged and projector lamps are one of them. They are also known as the projector bulbs by a lot of brands as well as customers. When a Peron must replace or buy a projector lamp, the best way to find out the right model and the right brand is by going through the user manual of the projector. Apart from these details, the right way of changing the lamp will also be mentioned there.

There are three different types of projectors available in the market and the projector lamps are designed according to these different types. The basic three projector types are:

  • Multimedia projectors: These projectors use the costliest kinds of projector lamps. The basic principle of multimedia projectors is to increase the size of the original image from the origin by many times and then show it on the screen. The multimedia projectors generally find usage in big cinema halls.
  • Slide projectors: Such kind of projectors have a special feature for playing the 35mm slides; and whatever images are produced from these slides are then enhanced and projected on the screen. Such projectors are their lamps find usage in the fields of photography or during presentations.
  • Overhead projectors: The projector lamps used in these projectors are given support from bottom so that they can stay safe and work properly. The image is transferred to another mirror by the projector lamp and from there the enlarged image is then transferred to the screen.

Usually the projector lamps are quite expensive and two of the factors that influence their cost are the name of the company and wattage of the lamp. The point that needs to be considered in this case is that since the projector itself does not come in cheap, it is not advisable to buy cheap projector lamps and risk the working and quality of the projector and its results.
