Projector Accessories

Projector accessories are integral parts of the projector and without it, the projector becomes useless. The bulbs are the basic function is to transmit images from the projector to the bigger screen for the crowd to see it. The projector accessories are manufactured by a number of companies and people usually buy the same brand of which their projector is.

Earlier the projectors used halogen bulbs for the purpose of projection. The disadvantage with such bulbs was that the halogen gives a yellow tone to the picture that it transmits and that reduces the clarity as well as impact of the picture. The halogen bulbs were then replaced by the current projector accessories which are concentrated light bulbs and are known as metal halide bulbs. These are better as they have the capacity to produce white light.

The projectors do not have many parts that can be replaced if they stop working. Among the few that can be replaced lie the lamps, also known as projector bulbs. As mentioned earlier, they are available in great varieties and brands and one need to know the exact wattage of the bulb so that the projector can function properly. This kind of information can normally be obtained from the user’s manual where the procedure of how to replace the bulb is also mentioned.

The bulbs used in projectors are divided in three categories based on the kind of projector that they are used in. These three categories are:

  • Overhead projectors: There is a flat support below the projector bulb in this kind of projectors. The bulb leads to the shifting of the image to a different kind of mirror which helps in the enlargement of pictures and then transfers it to the large screen. Such kind of lamps and projector bulbs are good when there is a big audience like in a classroom or in some business conferences and presentations. It is one of the most common models used in such places.
  • Multimedia projectors: The lamps of these projectors are the most expensive ones. Here, the picture or the image is transferred from a source like a film reel, a DVD, a video tape etc and is multiplied in size and then shown on the blank screen. Such projectors are usually used either in the very expensive home theatre systems or in big movie theatres.
  • Slide projectors: They are majorly used for slide shows as they have a special slot for 35mm slides and the images that are originated from these slides are then enlarged on the screen. Such projector bulbs and projectors are usually used by photographers or business professionals.

The cost of the projector lamp is decided according to its wattage and its brand. It is normally suggested that one should not go in for the cheaper bulbs without knowing their specifications and terms of guarantee etc as the wrong projector accessories can damage the projector whose repair will be much more costly than the cost of the right kind of projector accessories.
