Tips To Help You Increase the Useful Life of Your Projector

The projector equipment has become a common feature in many homes and offices today, as projector based presentations and big screen entertainment systems become ever more popular. Miniaturization has also made the production of easily portable projector lamps possible, hence making them convenient to move around with, especially for marketing and other client support staff that has to move from office to office making presentations about their organizations and products.

A disappointing fact about projector lamps however is that they don't last forever, like all electric lamps, the projector comes with a limited useful life, measured in hours, after which their service begins to deteriorate, calling for their replacement. This deterioration usually manifests through diminishing quality of projector lamp output. The average useful life of a typical projector lamp is about 2000 hours. Not all projector lamps however live to attain their full useful lives. How a projector lamp is used and taken care of goes a long way in determining whether the lamp will live to its full useful life. Thus there are some simple steps that you can take to increase the useful life of your projector lamp.

First, whenever possible, limit the use of the projector lamp to dust –free environments. The inner components of a projector lamp are sensitive to dust and consistent exposure to dusty environments can reduce the useful life of your projector lamps by up to a few hundred hours.

Secondly, regularly clean the projector lamp air filters. This is especially critical in cases where you have to use your projector lamps in dusty environments. But even if you are able to secure a clean environment for your projector lamps every time, there is still the inevitable dust component in the air everywhere, which with time accumulates in the air filter, hence the need for regular cleaning of the air filters.
Third, treat your projector lamps as the delicate items they are. Knocking projector lamps around distorts their outer shape, which in turn affects the inner electronic components which are compactly packed inside the lamp. Any distortion of this precise arrangement could significantly reduce the quality of the projector lamp output while also decreasing the lamp's useful life. In the same vein, avoid shocking the projector lamp system. Whenever you need to, transport it in a shock absorbent package (like the one it originally comes in) wherever possible.

Finally, always use your projector lamps in well-ventilated environments, to avoid overheating them. The inner components of your projector are sensitive to high temperatures and regular exposure to extreme heat shortens the lamp's useful life. In the same vein, avoid using your projector lamps in very cramped environments, and ensure there is plenty of ‘breathing' space around the lamp whenever it in use.

Thus by using your projector in dust free environments whenever possible, regularly cleaning the lamp air filters and physically handling the lamps with care, you will go a long way towards increasing their useful life, while at the same time ensuring high quality output from the lamps.
